Optimally they should both be temporary characters, but people hang on. but chester is cool, so that's why i use him, and same goes for kiwi. you can do the same for kiwi and give him cheerful bread. his only redeeming factor (other than being a starter) is that you can technically not make him the worst by giving him the pegasus wing, but then you wasted the pegasus wing on him. people use chester because he's a starter, but he's one of the worst centaurs, if not worst. also, i think anyone who uses chester and criticizes using kiwi is somewhat a hypocrite. by the time chess board hits, kiwi's biggest competition is luke, chester, slade, gerhalt and elric.Īnd i didn't mean to make it sound like he is complete ass late-game. 3 of the battles noted in this thread for difficulty have been kraken, taros and chessboard. while the later battles may be more complex, they are not necessarily more difficult. His revives are free, and he can get good if you work on him. Sometimes it's better to learn a new spell or get better stats before they're set back to 1. Don't promote as soon as the option is available. That way the mages are likely to only hit one at a time. I like to space everyone out by a square. If you charge in you're likely to get surrounded. Otherwise you'll end up with a couple powerhouses and a bunch of losers that can't damage and die instantly. Weaken guys so your less leveled characters can finish them off. And the only way they gain EXP is by using their spells. If you hang on to them, they're likely to get killed in one hit. They get pretty stupid, and you won't find most of them without a guide. I've got a number of tricks that help me through the game each time. It gets easier later on, but it starts out pretty brutal. One of my favorite games, I've played through it more times than I care to admit.
